We want to thank everyone who supports our program and we hope to see your name in the running for next years awards. Every club secretary for both the AU and the IF should have received 25 Gold Bands in their club band packages this year. If you did not get a chance to pick bands up from your club we have plenty of bands here at the World of Wings. They are 10.00 each. For every 25 bands you purchase you are entitled to a Gold Banded youngster from one of our 41 pair of breeders. We give out the selections in order that the bands are paid for. If you purchased 25 bands in 2009 and have not received your bird it is most likely because the shipping cost has not been paid. Please call us if you would like to take care of the shipping cost so we can get your bird to you ASAP. Thank You all and again CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS and all the other top performers who put up some close numbers.
WORLD OF WINGS 2008 Gold Band Prize Winners
As a reminder, to qualify for the old bird Gold Band prizes, an OLD bird must fly in the top 20% in four or more different races, totaling 1200 miles or more, one of which must be less that 250 airline miles and one more than 450 miles. Dividing the position of the bird by the total race entry and multiplying by 100 determines the Universal Performance Rating (UPR). The qualifying unirates are then averaged for the number of races flown. Similarly, the young bird prizes require clocking in the top 20% in four or more different races totaling 800 miles or more.
While the Unirate system is used by the AU, competition for Gold Band prizes is open to both AU and IF members. In fact, since its inception, more Gold Band prizes have been won by IF members. Again in 2008, IF flyers dominated the young bird results.
The Gold Band rules prohibit a director or officer of WOW winning a cash award.
Our Gold Band Loft holds 41 pair of World class breeders from top lofts in the United States, Belgium, Holland and South Africa. These 41 pair are housed in our new Gold Band Breeding Loft , all in individual breeding pens 30" wide, 5' deep, and 7' high. The young that we breed from these 32 pair are weaned into a large holding pen with plenty of sun and allowed to mature through summer to early fall. We make sure that they meet our standard of excellence before they are shipped out in October and November. We want our customers to be happy with what they get! We guarantee all our birds to be of the highest quality and health. If not , we will replace it!!!!
To get one of these young birds from our program this is how it works. To help support the World of Wings each year the AU and the IF donate the Gold Bands to us. You may purchase these bands from us for $10.00 per band or 25 bands for $250.00 and etc. You can buy as many or as few as you like. Clubs, Combines or individuals can buy Gold Bands. You must purchase 25 of our Gold Bands to receive a young breeder from one of the 32 pair of breeders in our loft. The selection order is determined by the date you purchase your bands . If you purchase 50 Gold Bands you get 2 birds, 75 Gold Bands, 3 birds and etc. If you purchase 100 bands or more you will receive 1 extra bonus bird. To keep the selection process fair, you can only choose one bird from any given pair. We breed 6-8 young from each pair so when making your choice's you must give 3 choices per selection. We will do our best to get you what you want but we only have so many from each pair.
Now all you have to do is take the Gold Bands you purchased from us and band your own pigeons with them. Fly your Gold Banded birds in your own club and or combine. If you feel you have a bird that has scored well enough in your club or combine just mail the race results to us before the deadline of Dec 31st of each year with your bird hi -lighted and race sheet signed by your Race Secretary. We will calculate your birds performance vs the other applicants and determine the winner.
